Holistic Learning & New School
I just remembered that I was supposed to come read your New School post. It made me remember how much I loved, and sometimes hated, New School. I can't believe you managed to write a whole summary, though, without including the words 'holistic education'-- the entire basis of why New School exists is to facilitate education in the academic and personal. That is the basic concept of a band: for students to have a space to explore how their personal lives impact their education. That's why the "learning band" is such an attack on New School values- a (non-band) regular learning group in my day would have included aspects of a band (everyone bringing their personal experience to the subject) but a band, at least a good one (I was in at least one really terrible one,) was more like the idea of a 70s consciousness-raising group.
Do the students & facilitators still do interviews to accept people into New School?
Love,
Heather
